Some Enchanted Evening

I’ve never been the outdoorsy type in winter, but I’m trying. I’ve always been one to hibernate in winter by reading, gaming and pretty much doing anything to avoid going out in the cold. I must say the warm spell we’ve had has been quite enjoyable, it’s been perfect for getting outside and doing things. Actually, now that I think about it, I enjoy the cold, it’s the wind I can’t stand. Give me a calm, zero degree day over 40 and windy any day.

Today we “ran” the Enchantment in the Park Diamond Dash 5k. My intention was to jog it at least, but I managed to hurt my Achilles somehow, while preparing for the run. So instead I did a 5k hobble. If you haven’t had the chance to check out “Enchantment” (or others like it) I highly recommend it, although it’s certainly prettier when there’s snow. There are over a half a million lights and nearly 800 volunteers to set up and run it. All the proceeds go to local charities. A bag of food or a few bucks will get a carload in.

My youngest son Dave, really pushed himself on this run. He’s never trained for a 5k, in fact he said he’d never really ever ran a mile other than in gym class. His time was 26:23. He felt a bit sick afterwards, nothing some cookies couldn’t cure. With my heel and my husband’s back giving us grief, we chilled and just walked kinda mellow. 53 minutes even. We just enjoyed the scenery and talked with other people along the way.

It was a marvelous night for a walk and a wonderful sense of community with the lights, food, hot cocoa, Santa, and fires to enjoy afterwards. I love this time of year, it’s always special to me.

Now all we need is some snow.
