In an effort to build morale and spread the Christmas spirit, my company had a tree decorating competition this week. I have to say it was incredible seeing the creativity and variety of ideas that everyone came up with.
Participation was high, there were 10 groups of 4 people each, who were competing for the grand prize of lunch on the company and bragging rights.
Secrecy abounded and groups met behind closed doors to plan their winning strategies. The 10 trees entered into the competition were as follows:
Tree #1 – A train track & gravel pit setup with a conveyor feeding presents into a rock crusher. Grinch!
Tree #2 – Rocking Christmas, razzle dazzle! Lights, fog, video, rock ‘n roll and a rotating tree! See the video at the end of this post.
Tree #3 – Santa’s Secret Stash, a tree of edible decorations and delights!
Tree #4 – Is that Santa hiding behind those glasses?
Tree #5 – Are you naughty or nice? Spin the wheel, blue lights means naughty, white lights? You’re nice!
Tree #6 – Christmas Vacation pt 1“I don’t know what to say, except it’s Christmas and we’re all in misery.”
Tree #7 – Looks like somebody’s getting a rock crusher for Christmas!
Tree #8 – Where’s Christmas Waldo? Not in this photo, but perhaps a glimpse in the video!
Tree #9 – An ode to “The IT Crowd” Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Tree #10 – Christmas Vacation pt 2 “It’s not going in our yard, Russ. It’s going in our living room.”
Voting was done during our annual potluck lunch – watch the video and chose your favorite!
Who won? Tree #1 got bragging rights and won, although some of us suspect favoritism and bias of shop vs. office 😉 as many of us were wowed by the lights, video and sound of Tree #2, which came in second. Still, both were deserving of first, and there could only be one winner.
There was no third place announced, although I’d like to think the order was 1, 2, 3… since tree #3 belonged to my team. We thought we had a winner, since bribery using food almost always works in our office. Truffles, mints, kisses, canes, cheese, sausage and crackers would not win the day today.
The event is over, and the bar has been set high. Planning can now commence for next year’s spruces on the loose! Which was your favorite?
